LEAHY HAT-TRICK ENOUGH FOR AC IN SEVEN GOAL THRILLER

This was the Denny Division 1A game that was abandoned earlier on in the season when a row broke out when the score was 1-1 but this time around it was AC Athletic who came good despite a late fight back from Asdee.

In truth AC always held the upper hand in this game and were 3-0 in front at the interval but it might have been a very different story had asdee not missed a golden oppertunity when it was only 1-0 to AC.

AC, after a slow start, took the lead in the 20th minute when David Leahy drilled a free kick to the Asdee net but the home side were not about to give in without a battle.

They attacked on the half hour and with Eoin O'Mahony found Liam McElligott, he struck the crossbar and the rebound came out to Eoin O'Mahony who headed the ball right across the goal.

The ball was moved quickly to the other end by AC and David Leahy was again on hand to fire home and this was the period in which the game was decided.

This second goal appeared to deflate Asdee and they conceded a third goal five minutes later when John Mike Dooley found John Paul Leahy racing through and he buried the ball in the net as AC Athletic led 3-0 at the interval.

Asdee were still ni the game and got a goal back in the 50th minute when Mike Higgins was fouled inside the box and the referee awarded an indirect free kick which Patrick O'Brien took quickly to Liam McElligott who blasted to the net.

However, AC struck back and when David Leahy was fouled inside the box, he completed his hat trick from the spot

Asdeee then attacked in an effort to rescue the contest in the final 10 minutes and almost got back on level terms but the time ran out.

The home side got a goal back in the 85th minute when Kieran Connolly sent in a long free kick that Eoin O'Mahony finished to the net.

Then, in the final minute, Michal Walsh slipped through to make it 4-3 but the final whistle rescued an under strenght AC who are playing well at the moment with Mark walshe, J P Leahy, David Leahy and John Mike Dooley the best performers for the winners.
