A Pa McCarthy first-half hat trick gave Fenit Samphires the 3 points after they came out on top in this meeting with AC Athletic that was the first game of the season for both clubs.
As such it was difficult to evaluate the sides before this game. AC Athletic are the current Reserve Cup champions while Fenit enjoyed a very satisfactory season in the top flight of Kerry Soccer last season.
Mounthawk Park was the venue for the big clash with both sides anxious to begin the season on a positive note.
Athletic got off to a whirlwind start after being awarded a penalty in the third minute and John Mike Dooley made no mistake from the penalty spot.
Then in a 25 minute spell Fenit scored 3 goals with Pa McCarthy netting all 3 for a very impressive hat trick to lead 3-1 just before half time.
Athletic upped their performance in the second half but were unable to cut the deficit, despite Samphires having Shance mcMahon sent off for a second caution.
