A strange game in many ways with neither Farmer's Bridge nor AC Athletic likely to be sending Christmas cards to the referee after this 2 - 2 draw at Mounthawk Park on Sunday morning.
Both sides had a player dismissed while all the goals came in the second half and on reflection a point each was about right. AC lost their keeper Cyril Dineen after just fourteen minutes and maybe a yellow would have done but instead it was red and this meant a major reorganization at the back.
John Mike Dooley should have scored a couple of times in the opening half but he failed to hit the target while Sheehy and Dunne went close at the other end. The game came to life in the 55th minute when a ball over the top saw Dooley race through a hesitant Farmers Bridge defence to score for AC.
However, Farmers Bridge hit back ten minutes later when ex Park player James Dunne leveled and then the same player gave his side the lead in the 75th minute as AC seemed to be tiring with just ten men for most of the game.
However, things chanced in the final ten minutes when Kevin Leahy was sent off and so Farmers Bridge were down to ten as well and soon after John Mike Dooley was taken down (though Farmer's Bridge maintain he fell) and referee John Bambury pointed to the spot.
Dooley picked himself and following some advice from his boss Mark Walshe, Dooley made no mistake in beating Aidan O'Sullivan and so it was a point a piece at the end of a hard fought contest between two good sides.
David Leahy might have grabbed the winner for AC, who had John Paul Leahy playing his first game since joining from Rattoo, and he will be a major addition.
AC in reflection, considering they lost their keeper so early in the game will settle for a draw while Farmers Bridge have yet to be beaten and are in second spot behind leaders Castlegregory in the table
